Does your child (7-15 years old) have food allergy and would like to connect with other youth with food allergy from across Canada? Register them for our Allergy Pals and Allergy Allies online peer mentorship program so they can learn strategies for managing food allergy and feel more confident overall.
This program was created through the Social Support Research Program at the University of Alberta and is used under license by Food Allergy Canada.
Details
- What is it: This program includes eight weekly one-hour online support sessions on Zoom. There are two sessions offered, broken out by age: Allergy Pals – Ages 7-11, Allergy Allies – Ages 12-15.
- Where is it: The sessions take place virtually over Zoom, using safe and secure online meeting tools.
- Who is presenting: Older peer mentors with food allergy, under the guidance of a youth program coordinator. All of our mentors receive training and encourage positive conversations among group members. They will never give out medical advice and will curb conversations that may be scary to some children (like details of reaction severity). Every session has a program coordinator listening in, ready to step in if a conversation veers in the wrong direction.
- When is it: Once registered, your child will be placed into a group on a day/time convenient for your family. The program will run from April 30th – June 24th.
We have received outstanding feedback on our previous sessions, including how transformative they have been and how important it has been connecting with others who understand. Register your youth today! Learn more about the program.
